Evans-Smith Leadership Training

Purpose: The
Evans-Smith Leadership Training Institute is a component of the Continuing
Education Program of the School of Theology at Virginia
Union University. The Baptist General Convention of Virginia co-sponsors
the program with offerings of moral support and other in-kind service. The
Peninsula Center is located at Gethsemane Baptist Church. The purpose has
been to assist African American churches in Virginia in their effort to
supply informed and trained local leaders for various church ministries.

Goal: The goal is
to offer opportunities for persons to grow spiritually and to sharpen and
expand skills necessary for more effective and efficient service as
leaders in the local congregation. Further, the goals is that persons who
participate in this program will render improved quality of service to
the local congregation and in the world.

There are twelve (12)
sites across the State of Virginia. The Peninsula Center held at
Gethsemane Baptist Church on Saturday mornings; some classes may be held
on Monday nights if schedule permits. Attached is a 2007-2008 Peninsula
schedule and the Evans-Smith Certificate Program
Booklet. Pre-registration
is encouraged.
